2022 Committee

PRESIDENT

Bailey
Ireland

Now into his third year, Bailey has been on the MSS for his whole degree. As a bassoonist, he is well-versed in that feeling of being completely misunderstood. When he’s not running between rehearsals or studying for his second major in maths, you might also spot him in our social netball team. Bailey can’t wait to make some music with you this year!

VICE PRESIDENT

Benjamin
Caulfield

Ben is entering his final year of his BPhil in Music (did you know he does BPhil). After 3 years of procrastination and avoidant behaviours, he is finally understanding what it means to practise his instrument (violin). Keen observers of the MSS will note that he was the 2021 President; like a blue-ribbon backbencher, he refuses to leave.

SECRETARY

Bridget Hutchinson

Bridget is in her second year studying piano performance under the Bachelor of Philosophy degree. When she’s not practising, listening to music, or prattling on about composers, you can usually find her drawing, or reading up on literature and astronomy. Bridget is always down to chat, and will make sure to find an answer to any question you might have about the Con or the MSS!

TREASURER

Jolyon
Joyce

Jolyon is a composer, pianist and vocalist in his third year at UWA, studying Maths and Physics. Despite not being a Music major, he's taken lots of music units and loves the Con community. In his second term as Treasurer, he looks forward to further fostering the growth of the MSS and the enrichment of student life at the Con. Oh, and he loves Bach!

EDUCATION REPRESENTATIVE

Abbie
Radford

Abbie is a fourth-year vocal student with a passion for education and all things choral music. Whilst music may take up most of her time, she also enjoys baking, buying things on Marketplace and watching way too much Netflix. She is so excited to see what 2022 brings at the Con and dive into the year with an amazing MSS Committee!

SOCIAL
REPRESENTATIVE

Steph
Winter

Next up is your garden variety sixth-year coffee addict, Steph! She is starting her Master of Translation Studies course in German, so if you have trouble with any pesky German terms in your music, she’s your gal! She also has a penchant for arbitrarily handing out nicknames, so watch out for her calling you “chicken” or “noo-noo”; only a few can be both...

CONCERTS
COORDINATOR

Andrew
Duong

Andrew is a second-year piano student studying the Music double major. He also happens to play the clarinet and refers to himself as a “fake clarinettist”, which accurately describes his questionable playing ability. As an aspiring polyglot, he enjoys learning German as a part of his degree to compensate for his many failed attempts to learn a language by himself.

WELFARE AND EQUITY OFFICER

Aerin
Chai

Aerin is a second-year cellist and (occasional) composer who enjoys studying double music, as well as indulging in quirky electives like Latin. When she’s not worrying about her own practice habits and sleep schedule, she’s most likely reading, writing, collecting tea, being sad about Hackett kicking choccy chais off their menu, or laughing about how funny it is to write about herself in the third person.

SPORTS REPRESENTATIVE

Fynn Evans-Ocharern

Fynn is in her fifth year of uni, studying a Bachelor of Music (Honours). When she isn’t practising the violin in 2.01, you might find her at the beach, in activewear or out getting food with friends. In her spare time, she loves to swim, surf, go to concerts and read good books.

ELECTRONIC MUSIC REP

Gabriel
Nathan

Gabriel is a third-year student, studying Electronic Music and Sound Design under a Bachelor of Arts. You’ll more than likely find him in the Tav downing a pint, no matter the time of day. He has a passion for piano, guitar and bass (but rarely practices any of them), and for all things nerdy. Gabriel is excited to see where 2022 will take Electronic Music for the MSS!

PUBLICATIONS OFFICER

Tim
Chang

One of the two most seasoned veterans on Committee in 2022, Tim is a sixth-year pianist currently finishing up his Master of Teaching degree who for some reason decided it’d be a good idea to give the Publications role a second whirl. He is passionate about overcommitment, and has way too many hobbies, from drawing to singing to composing (not an exhaustive list).

MARKETING OFFICER

Sara
Mau

Sara is a second-year bassoonist who loves laying down a SICK bassline. Most of her time is spent figuring out how to double tongue or play in tune, but in her free time she’s playing with colour palettes and sewing as she has a “passion for fashion!” She also has a horrible habit of saying vibe at least twice in every sentence. Sara loves to have a good chat, so don’t be afraid to say hi!!

ORDINARY COMMITTEE MEMBERS

Clare
Waters

Clare is in her honours year studying the clarinet (AKA the coolest instrument). As a self-proclaimed nerd and chronic procrastinator, you’ll often find her at Reid until 2am, finishing the assignments she’s been putting off. When she’s not practicing, at work, or at rehearsal, Clare enjoys brunch with friends, social netball on the MSS team, and chatting in the common room!

Tom
Allan

Tom is a third-year voice student, a serial common room fridge cleaner, and a Hackett coffee connoisseur. Like many of his fellow MSS committee members, he is wildly overcommitted, but will always make time for coffee and a chat if you need. If you ever need to find Tom, just listen for someone whistling; it’s most likely him!

FRESHER REPRESENTATIVES

Sarah
Bond

Sarah is a clarinettist in her first year. When she is not practising the clarinet, she enjoys singing in Symphonic Chorus and playing some tunes on the piano. She is passionate about swimming, and you will often find her down early in the morning at the UWA Aquatic Centre. If you try to steal one of her headphones, you will find she is listening to musical theatre, instead of the set listening for that week.

Taj
Johnstone

Taj is a trombonist and composer currently starting out on his journey with his Bachelor of Music. When he is not busy trying to sell his wares around the Con, you can find him tinkering in his shed, or on a contrived jazz-adventure (hopefully in the Perth local area).
